The National Association of Women Business Owners propels women entrepreneurs to spheres of economic, social and political influence worldwide.

Our mission: As an organization with a "customer first" philosophy, we:

Three women business owners in Washington, DC founded the National Association of Women Business Owners in 1975. There are currently about 85 chapters and 7000 members nationwide.

30 local women founded the Lexington Chapter on February 18, 1992 . It recently celebrated its 10th anniversary at a large celebration attended by the National NAWBO® President and various local dignitaries. The current membership is approximately 100.

NAWBO®'s strength comes from the diversity of its membership. We encompass all sizes of business, from those where the owner is the sole member to those with hundreds of employees. Every industry is represented, from construction to importers, retailers to service providers. Women from every ethnicity and all over the country add to the mix. All appreciate the increased business opportunities and visibility that their membership affords, along with the supportive sharing of resources. The National Association of Women Business Owners is a real force in the political arena, lobbying policymakers to address women's concerns in the workplace.

Membership is open to sole proprietors, partners, and corporate owners with day-to-day management responsibility in their businesses. Active members who live in a chapter area automatically join both their local chapter of NAWBO® and the national association headquartered in the Washington DC area. An "At-Large Chapter" caters to women business owners living outside existing chapter areas.
